Belkyra

A non-surgical treatment designed to reduce the appearance of a double chin and refine your lower-face profile.

Targeted Chin Contouring

A non-surgical injectable treatment designed to reduce submental fat (double chin). Achieve a more defined jawline with a series of treatments that destroy fat cells permanently.

Procedure details
Series of small injections under the chin, typically requiring 2-4 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Recovery
Mild swelling and bruising for a few days post-treatment.

Belkyra is the only injectable approved by Health Canada to permanently reduce submental fat — the pocket beneath the chin commonly called a double chin. In the United States the same product is sold as Kybella.

Its active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, is a molecule your body already uses to break down dietary fat. Injected into the fat pad under the chin, it destroys those fat cells. Once destroyed they do not return, which is what makes the result permanent in a way that no filler or skin-tightening treatment is.

What to expect

Most patients need two to four sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart, with the number depending on how much fat is present. Swelling after each session is expected and can be pronounced for several days — this is the treatment working, but it is worth planning around socially.

Belkyra treats fat. Where a poorly defined jawline is mostly loose skin or a recessed chin, a consultation will say so, because those need different treatments entirely.

Common Questions

How many Belkyra sessions will I need?

Most patients need two to four, spaced six to eight weeks apart. The number depends on how much submental fat is present, which is assessed at consultation rather than estimated in advance.

Are the results permanent?

Yes. Belkyra destroys fat cells, and destroyed fat cells do not regenerate. Significant overall weight gain can still enlarge the remaining cells in the area, so the result is best maintained alongside a stable weight.

How much swelling should I expect?

Noticeable swelling under the chin for several days after each session is normal and expected — it reflects the treatment working. Most patients schedule sessions with a clear diary for the following week.

Is Belkyra better than CoolSculpting for a double chin?

They suit different anatomy. Belkyra is injectable and handles small, well-defined pockets precisely; cryolipolysis uses an applicator and suits larger, more uniform areas. A consultation is the honest way to decide between them.

Does Belkyra tighten loose skin?

No. It reduces fat. If the main issue under your chin is skin laxity rather than fat volume, Belkyra will not address it, and you will be told that at consultation rather than sold a course of treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

There is a burning sensation for a few minutes after injection as the product activates. Topical numbing and ice are used to keep this manageable, and it settles quickly.
